1875 Genzo Shimadzu Sr. started to manufacture of

physical and chemical instruments for educational

purposes in Kiyamachi-Nijo, Kyoto

1877 Succeeded in launching Japan’s first manned

hot air balloon flight

1886 Was asked to teach at the Kyoto Prefectural Normal School

and established a science and technology magazine, the

Physics and Chemistry Industrial Arts Journal.
